Trauma can shape how you see yourself, relate to others, and experience the world. Whether you've experienced childhood trauma, Complex PTSD (CPTSD), sexual assault, domestic violence, military service, or another overwhelming life event, healing is possible.

At Felt Sense Psychotherapy, we believe that trauma is not a sign that something is wrong with you—it reflects the ways your mind and body adapted to survive difficult experiences. Our therapists help you build a compassionate understanding of yourself by exploring how your past has shaped your emotions, relationships, nervous system, and patterns of coping.

Our trauma-informed approach integrates the felt sense—the body's inner awareness—to help you reconnect with yourself, process difficult experiences safely, and develop greater emotional regulation and self-compassion. We recognize that healing looks different for everyone and work collaboratively to support you at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Trauma Therapy FAQ

What is Trauma Therapy? Trauma therapy helps individuals process difficult experiences, understand how those experiences continue to impact them, and develop new ways of relating to themselves and the world. Trauma is not what happened to you, it is how your body experienced what happened. The impact of your experience is influenced by what support you had available, and how those experiences affected your sense of safety, connection, and identity.

What is a trauma informed approach? A trauma-informed approach recognizes that past experiences can shape how we think, feel, relate, and respond to the world around us. Rather than asking “What is wrong with you?” trauma-informed therapy asks, “What happened to you, and how did you adapt to survive?” This approach focuses on compassion, collaboration, safety, empowerment, and understanding the protective patterns that developed for a reason.

What kind of trauma do you support? At Felt Sense Psychotherapy, our trauma-informed therapists support individuals navigating experiences such as: Childhood and developmental trauma Complex PTSD (CPTSD) Relationship and attachment wounds Domestic violence Sexual trauma Veteran and first responder trauma Loss and complex grief Experiences that have impacted your sense of safety, self-worth, or connection

What therapies are used for trauma work at FSP? Our trauma therapists integrate approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, attachment-based psychotherapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, and other relational approaches. We focus on helping you understand your nervous system, reconnect with yourself, process difficult experiences, and develop greater self-compassion.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail? No. Trauma therapy does not require you to share every detail of what happened before you are ready (or ever). A trauma-informed approach focuses on safety, choice, and pacing. Your therapist will work with you to understand your experiences in a way that feels manageable and supportive. Healing is not about forcing yourself to revisit painful memories—it is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your responses, and your needs and building more resilience in your system.
